Before and After

This is what our 20 trees give us every fall.

You can barely see the grass.

And this is how it looks after I spend ooodles of
hours cleaning them up.

With a little lot of help from John

John and I can be rented at a reasonable rate
Call 1-800-I HATE DOING THIS EVERY FALL

That's what I need, a friend like John Deere! I have 5 trees and I have leaves everywhere! I do have a leaf blower though. It's called wind. I wake up one morning, after a very windy night, voila'! All the leaves are GONE!

Love it! We have a workhorse that does a pretty good job, though I do covet our neighbor's John Deere. ;)

I thought my tress produced a lot of leaves but after seeing your photos and a few others, I ain't got nothing on you all! My son wants a John Deer so bad...and I just laugh...we lived in L.A. on 3500 SQ. FT. lot and now we live on a 10,000 sq. ft. lot (it's California ya know!). I can just imagine the chuckle the neighbors would get if we busted out a John Deer.

BLAH!
my mums are dying - leaves are brown and everywhere... BLAH.

I'll just sit here on the couch and stare at them instead.......

good job on your yard though (pat on the back!)

High five on the clean yard! I've done that before (minus the John when I was a kid) and it was A LOT of work. Why can't the wind just blow the leaves all to the curb :-)

To people that live in California...the idea of all of those leaves is so storybook. The perfect ideal of Fall. We look for the tiniest of piles on the street to jump in...pretending that we have all of the seasons. It's pathetic! Thanks for stopping by today. I am just now getting around to blogging...10:30pm. LONG day, filled with many surprises. Now I'm exhausted, but wanted to check in with everyone if only for a moment. Hope you had a wonderful day! Holly at LLL.

I hate it too!! We will be doing that in a week or two.

OMG can I rent John and can he make his way to Germany? I'm so sick of raking!!

I just pour gas on the lawn and light it. The fire department comes out just in time to save the house and the ash helps with the new growth in the spring.

I’m allergic work. When I get around it I have to immediately have a cold beer and lay down for a nap, else I break out in a sweat and get blisters on my hands. It’s not pretty.

Oh Yay! Nothing runs like a Deere, I hear. And we ladies like our men to be animals that keep going, and going, and going...

{wink}

So what do you charge per hour, and how do I set up an appointment?

John is one handsome dude.

Our front yard looked like than until we had to have our huge maple trees removed. Now we only get a small pile of leaves from the neighbors trees. The back yard is another story. Instead of John Deere, I have Mr. Willoughby. He enjoys raking the leaves, I really don't, so I let him have all the fun!!

I got nothin' after Coffeypot's comment. Hilarious!

We have one tree (that's over 200 years old) that does that to our yard. Hubs hates the tree and the work it makes for him.

Oh, nice job! I'm not so inspired. :)

You have 20 trees? And I was whining about our 10. How much do you charge? Are you willing travel?

Times like these I'm glad we have lots of Evergreens!

Hope you don't mind I left you an award over at my blog:)

Blower and rake for me. I guess exercise is ok.

John Deere would definitely be my friend...as would you if you lived in my neighborhood! I still have yet to do any of the raking that needs to get done. I'm kind of hoping the snow will cover it up so I don't feel so remiss about letting all those leaves go to mulch!

i love my leaves! i don't let the husband touch them until they are all down and then me and my kids run and play in them! and then i make him blow them all to the curb. but he likes playing with his blower anyhow :)

don't you dare send him a "dear john":)

Love all the fall colors but I'm glad I live in an apt so I don't have to clean up all those leaves

John Deere, a man's best friend. I had trees in my yard at the old house, and I spent most of the fall picking up pecans..which went into pies so I think I had the better deal..thanks for droping by and saying howdy...sorry about your team.

I remember when my husband and I were dating many, many moons ago....in the fall he was never able to go out or do anything because he always had to rake the leaves. They lived up on top of a hill and it was covered with huge trees. I had never seen so many leaves in all my life! Man he hated the fall!

Jaime said...

you forgot the after after photo... you know. the one that comes 20 minutes after you and john get done doing your business and the leaves blow all over your lawn all over again.

hurstburst said...

Ugh! This brings back memories of our last house! We had four huge maples in the front and a few more on the tree lawn. We'd spend hours raking and the next morning we'd look out and the ground would be covered again. Now we live in a five year old development where the trees are all tiny. By the time they get big enough to do this, we'll be ready to move again!

otin said...

You know why they are called leaves??

Because you are supposed to just leaves them there and mow them over in the spring! LOL

Intense Guy said...

I'm glad John was there to help out.

I wonder what happened say 300 years ago when the leaves fell? I'm sure the Indians couldn't have raked them all up - but judging from the piles at your place and my memories of those at my parents place, the forests must of filled up with them in a couple years...

Hey Matty! I wish we had that problem! We don't even get real seasons here in southern California! I'm jealous! Thanks for the comments on my Wineville post. You have to look into it further. Such an interesting story! Have a great day! Kori xoxo

Wooow... definitely don't get here in cali. Unreal. So beautiful, though! (although you're probably sick of it)

I had a house like that once and it was a complete nightmare. We had to do it by hand, rake, and bag though. I wish we could have rented you out!

Erin M. said...

Matty,
I will stop complaining about our leaves now. Yours far surpass ours! How long did that take you??

However, part of me can still complain because my husband refuses to bag them. We hire someone to help us out in the fall when it's bad. He's a little lazy like that.

My Missus is giving me grief about all the leaves on our driveway. How far are you prepared to travel ? :-)

Alice in Wonderland said...

I love the smokey smell of leaves burning in the Autumn! Ours is done by a John Deere...and believe it or not, our John is a real person!
A John Deere on a John Deere and a leaf blower too!
I love the leaves when they are dry, and you can kick through them, but I hate the wet slimey ones!

The Bumbles said...

We've got a fairway type shaped back yard - long and narrow lined with leaf producing trees all along the sides. Way more than 20. We don't have a leaf-sucker-upper *jealous* but we do have teenagers in our neighborhood who blew and raked them all up for $30. Cheap labor = happy Bumbles.
